Ross was the co-chair of University of Michigan’s May 2007 fundraising campaign.

Ross donated $100 million to the University of Michigan in 2004. This was his single-largest contribution to the university. In his honour, the University changed its name to Ross School of Business. It was announced that Ross had donated an additional $200 million to the University.
