What you’ll be doing…

In the day to day operation of the NSCC Sport and Wellness Centre, the Associate for Sport and Wellness at NSCC collaborates with their Manager and relevant Campus/College staff. The Centre can serve up to 1,100 people, including students and staff from Truro Campus. A number of other groups may also be served by the Centre.

Associate at NSCC Sport & Wellness Centre is responsible for providing customer service, functional guidance to casual staff, and contributing to instruction.

The Associates work together as a team to focus on the Sport and Wellness Centre’s areas of interest. The Associates focus on Strength and Conditioning Programming, Facility Services, Program Connection (such as the COPAT/PARE Training and Community Recreation and Connections like the Terry Fox Run and the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser Walk). The incumbent works with campus staff to support the NSCC Mental Wellness Strategy priorities. This strategy aims to create a culture at NSCC that values mental well-being for students and employees. Qualifications and Work Experience

This position requires a minimum education qualification of a Diploma in Recreation or Physical Education, Kinesiology and Business or Office Information Technology. An asset would be NFLA Fitness Certifications or other relevant certifications. An asset would be a COPAT (Corrections Officer Personal Abilities Test), or PARE (Physical Ability Need Requirement Evaluations), trainer certification.

You have a minimum of two (2) years of related occupational experience in Recreation/Physical Education/Kinesiology providing exercise training and general wellness programs for a diverse population of clients.

Some occupations may require basic front desk tasks (taking payments using debit/credit machine; closing cash, balancing cash, reception).

You are comfortable with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, EMail, and Microsoft Outlook.

You feel comfortable working in a digital environment.

It would be a benefit to have experience in providing support/service to students or prospective students in a postsecondary environment.

It would be a benefit to have experience in partnering with local groups and agencies.

Specific technical knowledge and skills are required to ensure safe and proper operation of equipment within a Strength and Condition facility. You also need to have experience with regular maintenance programs and equipment cleaning.
